DJ SoYo was raised in El Paso, Texas and is currently living and working in Washington, DC. She embraces Hip Hop culture through her love of community service and Deejaying.
This love has led her to contribute to events where she has been able to form relationships with icons such as KRS-ONE, Wise Intelligent (of Poor Righteous Teachers), Immortal Technique, Professor Griff (of Public Enemy) and Dead Prez to name a few.
Because of these relationships, DJ SoYo seizes many opportunities where she organizes artists and fans to promote and raise money for humanitarian causes like helping Katrina victims and ending torture through the Hip Hop Caucus and Amnesty International (respectively).
The organizations she has been involved with are the Lyricist Lounge, Temple of Hip Hop, Hip Hop Caucus, Tru Skool (DC), and was a founding member of the DC Hip Hop Alliance.
As a DJ she volunteers by providing music for a variety of events focusing on organ donation, ending youth violence, and raising adoption awareness.
She is a resident deejay for the National Black Luv Festival; an annual DC Festival focusing on social change and self/community fulfillment.
She is also the resident deejay for Momma\'s Hip Hop Kitchen - A New York City festival providing a free safe space for women -especially women of color who seek social justice through HIP HOP.
Her main focus is on motivational speaking, deejaying and instilling self-awareness to those who desire. SoYo is truly a catalyst for positive change.
