It all started for Sarah on July 13, 2001. Listening to circuit house and trance at the time, Sarah was properly introduced to techno by Misstress Barbara, one of the world’s leading techno DJs. Mesmerized by this incredible sound, Sarah walked away committed to learning more about this DJ and the music she had just experienced.
Many techno parties and Misstress gigs later, Sarah decided that listening was not enough. She made the transition from fan to artist in late 2002 when she spent her university student loan on her first set of decks (oops!). By the summer of 2003, she had ventured out into the Toronto clubbing scene, making her debut at one of Toronto’s staple nightclubs, System Soundbar, with her groovy driving techno sound.
Since then, Sarah has played all over the city, including world renowned clubs such as System Soundbar, Boa-Redux, The Docks and The Guvernment. She has also played at Babylon Martini Bar, Element Nightclub and Labyrinth Lounge. She has been a guest on various radio shows, such as 1groove.com and CIUT’s die maschine show. Sarah placed first runner up in the semi-finals of Heineken’s “Found @ Thirst” DJ competition and has shared flyer space with artists such as Richie Hawtin, Carl Craig, Boy George, Phil Weeks, Tony Rohr, Dietrich Shoenemann, David Morales, Tom Stephan, DJ Demi, Miss Innocent, Josh Tha Funky1, Deko-Ze, Jelo, Sydney Blu, TK, Tim Patrick, Kenny Glasgow and more.
In the last year, Sarah has started to explore the sounds of acid house and electro. Inspired by her 2005 trip to Berlin, Sarah compiled two mixes showcasing her diversity – “Technostrausse,” a compilation of her original funky techno sound, and “electrostrausse,” a collection of electro house that she has curiously picked up along the way.
These days, the only thing that you can guarantee about Sarah is that she is ready with a crate full of bombs to rock a dancefloor with the techy sound that people have come to expect of her. Exactly how she delivers it is the part that is for her to know and you to find out.
