DJ Butterfli was born and raised in Chicago, while growing up she always had a desire for music. When she was a young girl her father bought her a record player(with Michael Jackson on the cover) that she played with all the time instead of the traditional toys like Barbies. In 6th grade she would make mix tapes with songs she use to tape off the radio. She taught herself how to spin on the turntables by practicing until she just finally got it right.
DJ Butterfli got her name while in college at Fisk University in Nashville, TN, because she made a lot of friends and people would call her a Social Butterfly. She then changed that to DJ Butterfli. DJ Butterfli got her start as a DJ at the university. There she hosted a radio show called The Garden on 88.1 WFSK, which was the first female Hip-Hop show and ended up being the highest rated radio show in its 20 year history. Hosting her show and spinning at parties and events, she quickly became a household name on the college campus and around Nashville. In Nashville she was offered a job with Nashvilles urban station 92Q but declined to pursue a career in education in Chicago. Once she graduated in 2001 she made the move back to Chicago.
In Chicago she has continued to DJ at numerous parties and clubs including Exedus, Pajes, Blue Note, Tini Martini. You can currently find her spinning every Monday at Exedus and some Saturdays at Pajes.
DJ Clue, Funkmaster Flexx, Co Co Chanel, Kid Capri and Jazzy Jeff influence DJ Butterflis current style that includes spinning Hip-Hop, Soul, and Reggae.
DJ Butterfli is very passionate about music and has a genuine love for Djing. She is humble and enthusiastic and stays positive and optimistic towards the future.
