Although there is no mistaking her talent as a DJ, music production is Katy's primary passion. Going by the name, Handinhand, she collaborates with producer Mike Genato and R&B vocalists in their home studio in Brooklyn.
A music connoisseur of a variety of genres spanning across decades, her main influences come from classic soul artists such as Stevie Wonder, Ramsey Lewis, Sly and the Family Stone, and James Brown as well as 70ıs funk, jazz and reggae. Disco, latin music and especially old school hip hop are also very important influences while producers such as Quincy Jones, the Alchemist, DJ Premiere, Timbaland, DJ Spinna, Coldcut, and Masters at Work make up a large part of her vinyl collection. Overseas artists such as Fela Kuti, Leftfield, Massive Attack, Moloko, Roni Size, and the UKıs Ninja Tune label also play an important role in shaping her sound. By using her MPC 2000 to \"sketch\" out ideas and working with vocalists, MCıs, DJs, and accomplished musicians, this genre-bending female producer makes a powerful contribution to the male-dominated music industry and is poised to make an impact worldwide.
